Postcards from Far Away

"And whether or not it is clear to you, the universe is unfolding as it should."

Wait, that’s not how the song goes.

I finally managed to start studying for Saturday’s exam. I think it’ll be okay if I just keep on it instead of messing around on the internets. No, this doesn’t count because I have to leave for class in like 10 minutes or so.

Speaking of class, I am actually quite looking forward to the next semester. I am frustrated that the English Department will not be participating in the first registration period because it messes up my whole schedule. I can’t really sign up for any classes until I know what kind of English classes I need to take. Ugh. But perhaps it’s just best to sign up for some classes to make sure I get the history classes I need so I don’t end up behind in that subject. Ugh. I also might have to take Latin, but we’ll see. However, I’m not really too upset about that; I’ve been interested in taking Latin since I started teaching at WHG last year.

I also managed to pay my tuition this week: 234€. True, it is not a lot compared with what I paid in the US, but when you’re supporting yourself, sometimes it’s a lot to pay. I’m just glad this is working out so far. When all is said and done, my ENTIRE education required to teach at Gymnasium will cost less than one semester at MSU. Problem with post-secondary education in the US? Yup.

I’ve decided that it’s no longer useful to complain about how disorganized everything at the Uni seems to be, so I’m going to start accepting it and try to complain less.

Well, it’s a balmy -8°C (27°F) here in the fair city of Mainz, and I am off to class. You know, Michigan is waaaaaaay colder, but living in Germany, a country with relatively mild winters, has spoiled me, and this cold weather makes me sad. I mean, I walked 20 minutes to class in -13°F weather! And now I’m complaining about 27°F? What’s with me?

At least the sun is shining. That makes it much better. Have a lovely day, everyone!

*Mittwoch is Wednesday auf Deutsch.
